Process_Description:

The ASCII file was downloaded from https://geonames.usgs.gov/domestic/download_data.htm. The file was first imported into an Excel spreadsheet, then added as an XY event in ArcMap. Finally, the xy event layer was exported to a shapefile and projected to WGS84 YTM Zone 55 North. Edited two features that are obviously placed in the wrong location (offshore): moved "Liguan Terrace" and deleted"Pacificare Medical Center" (due to unknown location).

Abstract:

This dataset shows the locations of all named geographic features on Guam that are contained within the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS).The GNIS is the official database that contains all geographic feature names for the United States of America and its territotires. The database is developed by the United States Geological Survey in cooperation with the United States Board on Geographic Names (BGN) to standarize feature names.

Purpose: This dataset shows placenames on Guam.
